Frigid

It dropped to -17F (-27C) with a wind chill of -37F (-39C) this week. All told, about 7" (18 cm) fell the past few days.

The flock of geese moved on, leaving Lone Goose alone. I wonder if wild animals have a sense of solitude--good or bad--or if perhaps they're more Zenlike about the whole thing
.

The Bald Eagle spent some time here yesterday. Click to zoom and view him in the upper right corner.
(Okay, so sometimes you just have to trust your blogger.)

I went for a frigid walk in search of the harrier this afternoon. No luck ('though there may have been a male far across the road, out of camera range). I saw dozens and dozens of Song Sparrows popping in and out of the grass, feeding in the north field--it was a flurry of activity!

Below, open water is closing in compared to last week. Some of the footprints in the foreground are from two Whitetail Deer who browsed past the kitchen window last evening. The footprints crossing the river belong to Fox Squirrels.
