People complain about critters raiding their gardens, but I've not heard grumblings about critters planting in their gardens. Methinks Chipmunks have made their way through the fence:

Sunflowers
I didn't recognize this till I pulled it up and found the kernels. It's corn -- which might be fun to watch grow in another location, but not my tomato bed. (Don't fret for the Chipmunks, there's an endless supply of corn whenever they want it.)(This week's mediocre photos come with disclaimers: It was dark. It was sunny. I shot through the window. I didn't want to disturb the nest. I was busy swatting mosquitoes. Etc., etc., etc.)

I thought Beaver was just a passerby this Spring but he appears to be a regular--at least when the river is high and food is nearby.
Cardinals built a nest in a Buttonbush overhanging the pond. I wonder how the fledglings will fare when they leave the nest (no land below for a second chance at flapping) but I'm a natural-born worrier and need to trust they know what they're doing.
Green Frog, the mom or dad of last week's tadpoles? I rarely walk to the pond without hearing the loose banjo string sound of their call, and always hear the plops of 4 or 5 or 6 leaping into the water as I walk around the edge.

We had sunflower seeds come up last year in a planter...I let them grow to flower. You know it's chipmunks when they sprout in little bunches like that!
Very nice update, Jain. I'm a worrier, too. I stopped for a traffic light at a very busy intersection recently. The traffic signal was suspended over the intersection by a heavy metal pole, and the end of the pole was open. While stopped, I saw a bird--probably a House Sparrow-- dive into the open end of the pole. Those babies inside have but one chance when they make their first flight, just like your Northern Cardinals over water.
Wanda, I've seen sunflower seed sprouts all over the place but this was the first time I'd seen corn. The little guys sure are busy!
Scott, I just want to talk to these birds and say, "What were you thinking?!" I wish our birdies well.
I guess the critters giveth as well as taketh away. Lovely glimpses of nature! Thanks!
June, that they do! Thanks for visiting and I look forward to exploring your blogs.
