Late November

My zoom capability and patience are equally poor so I don't post many bird pictures, though there are certainly plenty of birds around.

I keep trying, though.
Blue Jay in Witch-hazel tree

Someone carelessly dropped peanuts on the dock while feeding the squirrels. This Jay carried them away, three at a time: one down the hatch, one in his mouth, and a third in his beak. It was fun to watch.

A Dark-eyed Junco spent a bit of time surveying the situation before figuring out there was no way he could get a nut in that tiny beak.

After seeing Wheel Bugs the first time a couple of years ago, I look for them, and look forward to seeing them.
They have a bad rep, since their bite can be painful, but as with most creatures, if you don't bother them, they'd just as soon ignore you.

It's crazy to see snakes this late in November but it's been warm and this one was still quite lively.

With the leaves off the trees and a clear view to the west, sunsets are catching my eye these days.

I know what you mean about photographing the birds. I definitely have a lot of camera (and binocular) envy at my new job. That's why I stick to food, I can get as close as I want to it and it doesn't fly away (most of the time).

Grace, frogs in November?! It's crazy weather all over. Hope all's well with you, too, and have a great week!

Opossum, be careful that Lily doesn't see the monitor, she'd be terrified! Glad you liked the pic.

Nicole, herons and ducks are often thick here but I've given up trying to photograph them -- so skittish! I'm boggled at some of the great pics that others get.
Your food has a natural beauty all its own. :o)

That was a lovely sunset, Jain. It's the same leafless tree benefit here! I put some whole peanuts in a shallow tray and was surpried to see a small Titmouse carry one away!

Thanks, Wanda! I ran out of sunflower seed for my office feeder last week and had some whole almonds at my desk. The Titmice took off with those, too!
