Closed

The river rose this week and our road was closed for a couple of days.

The house is a mile up the road. I was able to detour out of the valley to get home.

Black Walnuts were stored high and dry by the squirrels. There in the bottom right you can see some other action.

Beavers are back! Quite a few little elms have been chewed. I've been out at dawn and dusk but haven't seen them yet.

The river receded on Friday and the sun shone Saturday morning. I went for a walk and heard the crackling of ice as the water fell.

Rain is falling again and will continue through Monday night. I'm getting used to it.

I feel like this has been an extremely wet year, at least in this part of the country. Somehow we managed to not get flooded in (or out) all year... but 2011's not over yet!

Grace, ups and downs is right! Thanks for the good wishes and no, I never drive through high water. The risk of getting swept away is too great and too scary.

Heather, I've been looking for our annual rainfall, compared to the average, but haven't found it. It will be interesting to see. I hope you continue to avoid flooding this winter!

Oh my goodness, we have such low water levels these days. Take care!

Oh gosh, Jenn, I didn't realize you were dry. I'll see what I can do to send some of this north!

Ice! Aargh! It's been unseasonably warm here on the Piedmont (thank goodness).

Fortunately this melted before it caused any trouble. I'm hoping for white, fluffy stuff this year, instead of all the *&^%$#@! ice we had last winter.

How are you all?? Thinking about you today with all this rain, rain, rain.

We're fine, J&S, thanks! The river fell 3 feet Friday and Saturday so we're in better shape than we thought we'd be. We sure did get a lot today, though. And so dreary!
Que sera, sera.

We've broken records in our area for rainfall this year. A small town close to us had some flooding last night.

Hi Wanda, records here, too, I'm sure, as Texas dries up and blows away. We're out of balance. Stay dry, my friend.
