A Cacophony of Corvids (American Crows, Corvus brachyrhynchos)
More than likely, the crows are harassing a roosting owl. A few days ago, we heard the "caw!" of a young crow screaming for dinner. There must be a nest somewhere in the neighborhood but the crows are far too clever to clue us in to its location.

Our wrens use twigs like that and they build the nest clear to the top with the ends poking out.

Scribe, ground and gray are less likely, the hole may be too small for Rattus, maybe pine squirrels but most likely flyers. Don't know, though, if the marks are current or previous. Clearly more observation is in order!
Hah, you made a soundtape of my alarm clock! Only it's not crows but rooks that are making all the ruckus in the tree beneath my bedroom window. There are worse sounds to wake up to :)
