Ohio missed out on some of the recent snowstorms but rain and wind blew through midweek.

The river rose with the rain, froze with the cold,

then cracked like gunshots as the water receded.
Shards

It's unusual for the river to ice this early in the season.
Fox Squirrels have formed a habit of summering across the river and wintering in our yard. I've been watching them in the trees, wishing they'd make the crossing for the season.
And they have! This morning, one was feeding on peanuts.
Magnificent tail
After a sunny Saturday, rain is falling again today.
Northern Cardinals brighten the yard instead.

...beautiful photos of the ice on the river. It was cold this week!
Beautiful views of the river Jain and your visiting fox squirrel certainly does have a magnificent tail.
I'm happy you liked the river shots!
Kelly, I didn't get my heavy coat out because it seems too early -- so I really froze. Sometimes I'm just a fool.
Wanda, I don't even know if this squirrel is a mansquirrel or a womansquirrel, but if I were the other gender, I would surely be impressed by that tail! :oD
...it was beautifully warm down here in Cincy today, but my hubby said the cold temps are on their way in and snow possibly for Saturday, so you might want to get your coat out this time! I'm looking forward to a little snow...
Ooh, looks chilly, Jain. Yet somehow the ice makes it that much more beautiful.
I'm glad the squirrels are visiting now. They're such entertaining critters. And the photo of the cardinal with the cold river behind and the ground covered with fallen leaves... Wow!
Kelly, it's about to get cold again here, too, so the coat is out of the closet and hanging by the door.
Jason, ice never does the same thing twice, always fascinating to watch and so pretty, I love it. Thank you for your kind words about my [puny point-n-shoot] pics. I spent my camera savings [horrors!] on car repairs last week so the fund starts anew!
Hi Jain...I am new and jumped here from Kelly's comments' popup window :)...and yes amazing country side snaps...and one more thing.....your name Jain sounded like Indian.... :)...
Your nature photos are beautiful! I'll have to back track and read your earlier posts! Looks like a great blog!
