Icicles

There's a curious track in the marshmallow cream across the river and I fantasized that it was the slide of a River Otter.
Otters have been reported in our county but we've never had a confirmed sighting here. Upon seeing some river traffic this morning, I suspect the track came from one of these guys, instead.

Nototters

Sun is always welcome this time of year and it's especially nice,
coming through ice.

I wonder if there are iciclologists. These seem to have formed under different conditions and I wonder what their story is.

Like Jesus in a tortilla, I clearly see a white dog

or a sheep, if you like.

You may not have a River Otter, but at least you have ducks and a river, Jain! I see the sheep clearly.

Wow! The ice photos are stunning. Isn't it a delight to find so much beauty in so simple a thing? And yes, I see a white dog. Maybe an arctic wolf?

It would have been grand had it been an otter. They're making a comeback here and are high on my list of things to find. Hope you get to see some soon!

Ha! I LOVE the dog/sheep in the icicle - I see it, too, and I really can't decide whether it looks more like a dog or a sheep! Good eye!

Oh, thank you all! Arctic wolf, I like it!

Good luck with an otter sighting, soon, Jason, I'd love to see one through your lens!

Thanks for enjoying the snowfire on my sweetgum tree, Jain. I was reluctant to make the image because (1) I had to back to the house to get my camera and (2) the snow was 20 feet up on the tree and I didn't think that the image would be worth much. But when I downloaded it, I was really glad that I had taken the trouble. Yesterday's half-hearted melting further eroded the remaining snow, and this morning's sunrise was cloudy, so I'm glad I didn't wait another day to try to capture the image.

Hi Jain,
I love your caption, "Nototters." Maybe the icicle that is...bulbous - was formed by water that melted slowly, or not at a steady rate. The smoother, dagger-like icicle next to it...maybe it was formed by a faster drip? Hmmmm.

I see a dog, but then, I'm really partial to them!

Amber, aha! So YOU're an iciclologist! There are some crazy ones outside now - bifurcated and windblown. Quite interesting!

I'm partial to dogs, too.
