Winter Solstice

Solstice weekend began Friday with an ice storm. In a fortnight of dark, gray days, this colourful, icy lace on the Juneberries was lovely to look at.

The Fox Squirrel is a regular at the sunflower feeder.

It's 4F/15C, windchill -18F/-28C and we were able to watch the river freeze over throughout the day.

A lone Canada Goose has been around the last few days. S/He appears to have an injured wing. The injury is bad enough to notice but good enough to keep the bird mobile, so there's no chance of a catch and rescue. The bird won't go hungry with corn on the bank, and maybe the food will keep him fat and warm while he heals.
