Warming, slowly

Just a quick check-in today. Temps rose above freezing yesterday and hit the low 40s F (5-ish C) this afternoon. O and I have taken turns chipping away at the thick ice sheet at the back door. We'll break through to the driveway eventually.

It's hard to walk through the yard, punching through ice with every fifth step. But it's not consistently every fifth step, so one never knows when it's going to happen. The dogs didn't even enjoy playing outside... and that's saying a lot.

I soldiered out to the riverbank this morning for the weekly picture and caught some geese.

Melt on.

About the same report from this riverbank, as well—though it is now 49˚F out. But the ground's still mostly snow/ice covered, and walking is not easy, for me or the dog.

On the neat side…several flights of snow geese have just passed over. Absolutely beautiful in the fading light.

Nice river pix; looks exactly like the river beyond the cottage except for the bend.

Grizz, I always look up to see if the geese overhead aren't the typical Canadas, the Snow Geese must have been a thrill!

I'm not really done with Winter, it almost seems as if we were cheated out of it. But I am SO DONE with this @#$%^&* ice.

Jain…

I concur…on both winter and the ice. I'm okay with another helping of the former, tired of dealing (and trying to walk over) the second.

Much as I love Canadas, those snows were breathtaking.

We're so grateful for the warming temps! We need this thaw to get us through till spring. :) Let's savor!

We're having similar weather to you and Grizz, Jain, but we're a bit warmer than you. We may get to 55 today (Monday), but back to cold again on Tuesday for a few days. Our snow's disappearing slowly, too; I still haven't ventured onto the trails because it's too icy and dangerous to walk, but yesterday a family with a baby stroller bravely hit the trails despite my expression of surprise.

Also, we've had geese fly over all this morning - mostly Canadas - but also some Snow Geese.
