This post brought to you by the color Brown

Not really Winter anymore, but neither is it Spring,
it's the brown time of year.

While retrieving a ball that Lily left behind, something caught my eye. It was a dead branch resting at an odd angle against a young Wild Black Cherry tree.
I noticed something holding it in place and tugged on the dead branch. It held fast, as if it had been glued to the tree.

I suppose it's a fungus holding it in place, but I wouldn't know how to start keying it out. If anyone can offer i.d. help, I'm all ears.

Preoccupied with the recent high water, I haven't spent much time looking for signs of Spring. Blue Jay Barrens reminded me that it's time for maples to flower so I made a point of looking at one of our trees.
Color!

Very odd, wouldn't that take some time, to grow like that? The maple buds are pretty.

I used the word *brown* in my recent post as well...I bet you were glad to see the *brown* of your yard and the river back within its banks.

Hi Jain...very odd happening there with the fungus looking growth ,but I don't have a clue to help you out!! lol
Lovely to see the tree buds!!
We have lost so much snow with the rain wind and warm sun shine it is had to believe so I am hopeful that soon things will be popping!!
Do hope you will be able to reclaim your property from all the water soon !!

Hi Wanda, I suspect the fungus has been growing since last fall, or earlier. It was in a place I don't often frequent so I easily could have missed it before now.
Yes, even mud is a delightful sight after so much water!

Grammie, glad to hear of your warmth and sunshine, I hope you're overwhelmed with Spring flowers this year!
