Stupendously Fabulous Nature Photographs!!! (not)

I've been thinking of changing the name of this blog to The Hapless Photographer. I can't win for losing.

This is the river, shortly after two dozen incredibly handsome Wood Ducks took flight.
I tried to capture them all weekend, but they were equally spooked by slooowly opening doors and siiiilently sliding windows. Forget about getting out of the house and over to the bank to photograph them. Skittish critters, they are. Honestly, I don't know how anyone ever photographs a Wood Duck.

Mid-week, I took Lily for a 3:00 a.m. walk (her idea, not mine). A good-sized pack of Coyotes was howling in the field behind the house. They certainly caught Lily's attention and I wondered if she knew what they were saying.

Even if they had been in the mood to be photographed, it was pitch black outside.

This is a crummy picture of a Wild Leek.
At least it's out of the ground.

Friday, on my way to work, I was a little too early and pulled into a riverside park to see if any migrating ducks were around. There were none. But within two minutes, a Bald Eagle swooped in front of me, a Great Blue Heron flapped down the middle of the river, and a migrating Common (!) Loon popped to the surface after diving for breakfast. My camera was at home.

This photo isn't particularly bad, it's just boring, unless
you live here. The river has dropped from 13.99' to 3.03'... but the pond isn't returning to its usual level, as it always has in the past. The path is still flooded and we can't walk around the pond. Our underground water must be in pretty good shape.

Every time I walk out the door without my camera...I regret it. I have missed plenty unique photos.

Don't fret Jain, we all (well I certainly do) have days even without all that water when nothing on the card is worth keeping. Too often I'll be looking one way when something else is happening in the other direction .. that's life.

Hope you dry out soon. We've had the driest March for years!!

Grammie, that Chickadee sap-sucker would be quite a sight! I'm glad you saw it and hope for either a similar sighting... or that you have your camera next time!

Jennifer & Steve, we're drying out, slowly but surely, thank you!

Wanda, I kick myself whenever I forget my camera... but when I do, I often also appreciate not having it in hand--it makes me pay more attention to the moment.
