March 15, 2008

Every Spring and Fall, the Common Grackles hold a convention. The date is always a secret, but their arrival is unmistakable.

Grackle Convention

I was bankside at dawn this frosty morning, in coveralls, camera on my knees, waiting for the arrival of the Wood Ducks. A dozen or more frequent our bend but they’re very shy. A group frolicked in the water downstream, just out of camera range, splashing and laughing at the overdressed photographer who couldn’t possibly catch them. The best I could do, later in the morning, was this shot through the window. Perhaps I'll have the patience to sit longer when it's a little warmer.
