Wetmore Landing to Little Presque Isle

It was crisp, windy, and sunny for one of my favorite hikes,

starting at Wetmore Landing.

Massive rocks line the beginning of the trail

accompanied by Hemlock, Balsam Fir, Red Oak, Paper Birch,

and White Pine.

The air smelled heavenly in the woods.

Black Bears got to the Thimbleberries before I did.

Looking back down the trail, I could see the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain. If the rain holds off, I'll climb it later in the week.

The trail rose and I saw rock formations in the lakebed that I didn't understand. So I made up a story: these are the remnants of a landing strip of an ancient civilization.

Looking down, I saw boulders the size of Volkswagons.

A Common Merganser takes a break from swimming.

Little Presque Isle comes into view.

I had the beach to myself much of the day, until a couple came along and distracted me from my thoughts.

A pair of Bald Eagles was circling the island.
