I was too quick with my cropping yesterday. Intent on seeing the face, eyes, and palps of my Halloween Spider, I completely missed...

the pale orange egg sack to the upper left of the spider.

She laid her eggs in the door frame at the back door. A hard freeze is in the forecast tonight. Will the heat emanating from the house keep them all from freezing? Will Mom make it through the night? Will the infants? When are they due to hatch? Later this Fall? In the Spring?

The nurturer in me wants to place a fuzzy blanket over the whole family to keep them warm and safe... but that would prevent Mom from capturing food, from eating dinner. If there's one thing I've learned in many decades, it's to let Mother Nature take Her course without interference from well-intentioned but not-too-bright humans. I'll keep an eye on the doorframe and keep you posted.

How cool! I love these marbled orb weavers. They are so the best. I'm curious about the questions you posed as well...

You know I'm not the biggest spider fan…but this one is really handsome. Love the color and pattern. You made an excellent close up. New camera?

Grizz, I'm proud of you for stopping to look at the spider pics. That shows real courage and open-mindedness. ;~)

I got the Panasonic Lumix in June. For every pic I post, there are 45 or so in the recycle bin. Glad you liked these, and thanks for the kind words!
