Morning Light, Bankside

I went out early this morning to photograph a Great Blue Heron on the bank. I wasn't able to catch the heron but managed to snap some morning light. Just imagine a heron there on the right.

It's unusual for the river to ice over so early. Oftentimes it's still open in January. We went out in the afternoon and threw some sticks on the ice to test the thickness. The first stick hit with a bang and skidded, spooking a mature Bald Eagle perched in a tree in our yard. We've seen them flying over the place before but I think this was the first time we saw roosting at the Arboretum. We have two humongous Sycamores, which they're known to nest in, so I'm fantasizing that this one was checking out nest sites for next year.

Flea,

I would be lost without you. What a joy it is to live with and love you.
