Eastern Red Bat

I went to the orchard to check on the paw paws early this evening. A bit of dead brown leaf caught my eye but it didn't take long to identify it as a furry critter, Lasiurus borealis (another pretty Latin name!), aka an Eastern Red Bat. He cooperated as I went indoors to grab O and my camera (in that order). He continued to roost 'neath the paw paw leaves as I took some photos.

Oh, by the way, some of the paw paws are starting to soften, we may get a taste yet!
