Paw Paws and Persimmons

At last count, there were about a dozen paw paws on the tree. When O did his daily rounds on Wednesday, there were none. He found two on the ground, though. That leaves 10 for the raccoons and opossums -- as it should be.

We waited, oh, about 15 years for these. The taste is described as mango-banana but that hardly does it justice. I would say it’s more like golden, creamy, silky, sweet ecstasy.

The leaves have finally fallen in the persimmon grove and we do, indeed, have a crop this year. Now we wait to see if they fall to the ground, and if we can find them amongst the leaves, before the opossums and raccoons devour them. Just one, we just want one bite...
