Dutchman's Breeches

Just a quick note to mark the coming out of Dutchman's Breeches! I remember the first time I saw them, along Big Darby Creek -- I jumped up and down and clapped my hands like a little girl. They're magical to behold.

Great image, one of the favorite wildflowers in our household, great to see that they are in full bloom.

Oh, my…I'll have to take a walk up the road tomorrow and check the bank where the Dutchman's Breeches grow. They weren't out and a'bloom a few days ago—but who knows now.

Nice shot. I think you've trumped my Cooper's hawk for this almost spring-like day.

Thank you, Tom. I'd expect to see them along the Olentangy about now?

Scribe, good luck finding some britches tomorrow. Thanks for the kind word. Comparing birds and flowers is akin to apples and oranges, methinks!

I am so enjoying watching your spring. That is one thing I miss about the mid-west. Here in Alaska things feel like they happen overnight. One day we have snow and the next day it is green and all the wildflowers are in bloom. It is very hard to get to know them as individuals this way.

Glad you’re enjoying it, Nicole. It seems to pass so quickly, but I guess spring in Ohio is an extended season by northern standards. I take that for granted.

I sure do miss the Bluebead Lily, Bunchberry, Buckbean, and all the rest. I wonder if all of your flowers are unique to Alaska or if any are familiar from the UP.

Funny you call them Dutchman's breeches. We Dutch call them Gebroken Hartjes, which means Little Broken Hearts.

That's a good name. American's Breeches wouldn't do!
