Another male joins the horde and they're heading straight for the back door.
Fortunately, O was able to make it out the door and ran some corn down to the riverbank. You can bet the bank will be stocked with corn first thing tomorrow morning. We just can't take chances like this again.

I know these birds can be very disruptive, but boy, they're so pretty! Send a couple of Wood ducks this way if you like, they can be the first settlers in Europe :) Great pics, by the way.
People have problems with them in urban areas, where we’ve altered the landscape to their benefit and their populations have exploded... but we’re delighted to have them.
We do have an enormous problem with non-native plants and animals (I imagine you do, too, in reverse) so we won’t be shipping any Woodies your way, but you’re welcome to come visit them! They are a most handsome bird!
Now that's what I need to fill out my own yard waterfowl gang…a few wood ducks! Haven't seen the woodie I photographed the other day since that snowy morning. But the Canadas and a mallard pair hang around.
Nice photos. Keep the corn out!
O thanks you both for your compliments of his photos. :o)
Scribe, the Woodies are all over the river all the time but way too skittish to approach. I was hatching an elaborate scheme to construct a blind and hunker down for hours or days with my camera... when the little buggers waltzed right past the window! Funny.
We saw a male perched, like yours, in one of our Sycamores the other day but he flew away when I opened the window. I hope they're nesting here somewhere.
